The effect of hypnotic conversational hypnosis may seem hard to believe when you first come across it. The ability of someone skilled with this technique to change situations at will seems almost unbelievable.
However if look at it more closely, you'll see that hypnotic conversation uses the power of carefully chosen words in a certain way to speak directly to a person's subconscious.
We don’t normally learn this method of conversation, so when we see what it can do it appears amazing. In a way, reporting on the results of conversational hypnosis is like demonstrating a light switch to someone who had never heard of electricity.
It's generally acknowledged that this hypnotic technique started with Dr Milton Erickson. He cured people just by talking with them.

One difficulty was that Dr. Erickson’s technique was unique to him. no one was certain how he obtained his results.
However, notes and tapes were available. Careful study of this material have led to some understanding of how Dr. Erickson accomplished what he did.
Maybe the most surprising fact about conversational hypnosis is that there’s no complicated setup. The hypnotist just speaks in a fashion that might seem nothing out of the ordinary, but the subject is hypnotized none the less.
Our minds follow rules laws. Conversational hypnosis takes advantage of these laws to have its effect.
This simple example may help you see how it works.
The waking mind hears the words “no” and “don’t” and so forth but the subconscious mind can’t.
If I tell you “Don’t walk in the flower bed” what picture forms in your mind? A picture of someone walking in a flower bed. The “don’t” wasn't heard.
On the other hand consider “Walk on the garden path.” The difference is clear.
A skilled conversational hypnotist can use this principle to hypnotize even someone who claims to be resistant.
Traditional hypnosis methods might use a script giving suggestions something like “Now relax your arms, now your shoulders,…” To which the resistant subject responds "No I won't". Their resistance is fully engaged.
Now imagine how they might respond to: “Don’t relax any more quickly and easily than feels comfortable.” Since the hypnotist used the word don’t the resistant listener has nothing to push against With active resistance disarmedthe subconscious is open to suggestions like let the tension ease from your body.
Naturally this is an elementary example. Even so I believe it gives you an idea of how this approach works.
Until recently, it has been impossible to learn conversational hypnosis. Enough qualified teachers just weren't available and their courses were infrequent, hard to get to and expensive.
